Although he is almost unknown in the states, musician and producer Jim O’Rourke has a huge following in Japan……suprise suprise. I’ve always wanted to catch one of his mythical solo shows, but he rarely tours the US. I’m so excited to have stumbled upon this footage of Jim playing a live solo show in Japan. If you like what you hear, make sure to check out my favorite O’Rourke solo album, Eureka.

Jim O’Rourke is probably best known for his production work with virtuoso guitarist John Fahey, as well as on Wilco’s very successful albums Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born. O’Rourke collaborated with Wilco member Jeff Tweedy and pre-Wilco Glenn Kotche under the name Loose Fur. O’Rourke has also released a large number of albums and was once a member of Gastr Del Sol with songwriter David Grubbs and The Red Crayola. From 2000 he played bass guitar and guitar with New York City band Sonic Youth; he quit as a full member in 2005 to pursue his interest in filmmaking, but continues to play in various experimental side projects
