Climbing Ben Nevis 1976

May 3rd, 2010 | Categories: Pioneers

This is the life. Tearing through the Scottish countryside on a cafe bike, loaded up with gear for a solo alpine climb. This montage featuring John Cunningham was shot for National Geographic by Yvon Chouinard, who later went on to found the company Patagonia. The film was never finished due to a terrible avalanche while filming in China. The director was killed and Chouinard broke a couple ribs. These 70’s climbing pioneers were hardcore to say the least.
